HOZENJI TEMPLE AND HOZENJI YOKOCHO

The stone-paved alley stands out after walking around the vibrant Dotonbori, as it sits right in the heart of the bustling shopping streets. Located within walking distance from the Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, step back in time as you walk down the alley lined with traditional shops and restaurants. Look for the Hozenji Temple which was built in 1637 which houses Fudo Myoo, one of the five guardians of Buddhism.

Minami Mow Tip: Don’t forget to splash the moss-covered statue of Fudo Myoo with water for good luck!

NAMBA YASAKA SHRINE


An eye-catching shrine with a 12-metre tall and 11-metre wide lion head as part of the shrine’s façade, it is said to swallow evil spirits and leave you with good fortune. Located within minutes by walking from the Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, the distinctive unique location for worship is also popular among tourists during spring time with sakura trees blooming amidst its shrine grounds.

SUMIYOSHI TAISHA

Founded in the 3rd century and considered as one of the oldest shrines in Japan, did you know that the shrine is the head of approximately 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan? Walk over the Sorihashi Bridge, make your way through the main halls and discover the picturesque grounds. Make sure to attend the midsummer Sumiyoshi Matsuri, considered to be one of Osaka’s biggest festivals. Discover more about  Sumiyoshi Taisha here.

Minami Mow Tip: Want to experience the Tram in Osaka? After visiting Sumiyoshi Taisha, take the Hankai Trams to catch the sunset at the Abeno Harukas observatory! Founded in 1910, the Hankai Tramway makes use of their vintage trams that dates as far back as 1928! Find out more here!

NAKANOSHIMA MUSEUM OF ART, OSAKA

Featuring more than 6,000 artworks focused on highlighting Japanese art and design, this museum is devoted to featuring modern and contemporary art. Don’t miss their special exhibitions which are always popular among locals and tourists alike.

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART, OSAKA

Located on the island of Nakanoshima in between Dōjima and Tosabori rivers, the country’s fourth national museum features a fusion of Japanese and international contemporary art. The unique underground museum was designed by Cesar Pelli from Argentina, which features a fascinating façade inspired by the strong vitality of the bamboo plant.
